Flawless and Exquisite: Sorrento and Positano

Well this weekend I was SET to go to Cinque Terre, I was planning on traveling with 4 other girls from the day camp program and we were so excited! We got home from work pretty late and had enough time to shower and grab our stuff before the last bus of the evening came. There are two of us staying on the hotel and then 3 of the girls are living at Carney Park. The other 3 girls went downtown to make sure we could make reservations so everything would be ready when we got there. WELL … as we were waiting for the bus (and waiting, and waiting) the other 3 girls called and the trains to the Cinque Terre were all full and there were not any more leaving Friday night. NNNOOO!!! This is the third time i have tried to make it to the Cinque Terre and it has FAILED! Luckily those of us coming from the hotel did not even get onto the bus so we just came back to the hotel and spent the evening quickly working on Plan B.

The girls I traveled with had not been to the Amalfi Coast - just south of Naples. So this quickly became Plan B. I LOVED the Amalfi coast so I was completely alright with making a second trip!! WOOHOO!! We were able to book a last minute hostel at the same place I stayed the first time I went so it worked perfectly!! We got up very early saturday morning to catch the bus from the hotel to the metro station, then from the metro station downtown to the central train station where we caught the train to Sorrento!! We spent a few hours just wandering around the city of Sorrento and just soaking in the beautiful surroundings! We did a little shopping and just enjoyed the town. We needed to get to Positano (about a 1 hour bus ride from Sorrento) for our hostel and the WONDERFUL beaches!!

This was the ultimate goal so we took the terrifying (life flashing before my eyes) bus ride to Positano. We checked into our hostel and headed for the beach!! It was absolutely BLAZING hot so it was such a relief to make it down the 600 steps to the beach. We rented a beach chair and spent the whole afternoon soaking up the hot sun next to the beautiful ocean. For some reason there was a little bit of a jellyfish invasion so we were not really able to go in the water (at least I wasn't swimming with the jellyfish), but we sat on the edge of the water and let it splash on us if we needed to cool down (or just go rinse off in the outdoor showers they provide). It was critical to rinse off a number of times during our sunning session because I was laying in my chair doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and I was sweating out of every pore of my body. It was wonderful to be releasing the toxins, but Mamma Mia!! Then we headed back up the 600 steps (again sweating like I never imagined possible) to clean up and relax. Then of course we headed out for a little bit of dinner and wine (unfortunately not the best dinner, I really wish we would have gone to this little family business we passed by, but unfortunately everyone else missed the memo!) Then we headed back to the hostel to just relax and enjoy the company of our fellow hostel friends (with a few drinks of course).

Sunday we did not want to be stuck on the train when they shut the power off like the last time I travelled to Positano, so we headed out pretty early, wandered around Sorrento for a little while longer (along with 2 cruise ships full of crazy tourists!!) and then caught the train back to Napoli. Thank goodness the traveling was very uneventful and it was a perfect relaxing weekend!!!

Part of me wishes I could stay here forever, the Amalfi Coast is just the absolute most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life! There is endless lemon groves as you wind through the towns and these incredible towns chiseled into the side of the mountains, and little houses tucked away where you could never imagine. It is just priceless and breath taking. I definitely feel blessed after spending my weekend in paradise.

  1. Paradise sounds absolutely amazing.

The Adventures of Coco and Cali Part 2

Okay so all has been going very well. I was even able to take all four dogs for a walk. I had some great looks and comments from the neighbors, "wow that's alot of dogs", "you are a brave soul", "who is walking who" are just a few of the comments we got. But all in all it was a successful walk so I let the dogs run around at the high school baseball fields. Cali found a bird that she thought would be great to chase, I was okay with that because it was great exercise. Then Troy and I decided to take the three dogs to the beach. All was going great until Coco and Cali were working on bringing back a stick and Newt thought that he would be able to help. Well as you can imagine that did not work out real well - the big dogs swam right over Newt and again he had to come out from underneath them gasping for air. But he did not try that stunt again. hehehe Actually Coco and Cali have become good friends and they play very well together. They love playing tug of war, the other night I caught them in my room play tug with my bra. I love my grand dogs. Love you and miss you lots (so does Coco)
